VALENCIAN COMMUNITY
PROVINCES: Alicante, Castellon, Valencia
The Valencian Community is a region (autonomous community) on Spain's east coast. It borders the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Spanish regions of Aragon to the northwest, Cataluña to the north, Castilla-La Mancha to the west and Murcia to the south. It's capital city is Valencia.
The region is one of Spain's top tourist destinations, having over 200 kilometres of coastline, known as the Costa Blanca (White Coast). The inland part of the region is mountainous, with the highest peaks in the Valencia and Castellón provinces which form part of the Iberian Range. The region generally has a mild climate, heavily influenced by the neighbouring Mediterranean sea. The inland, mountainous regions will be colder and there is a semi-arid climate, where it can get very hot in the summers, which goes along the coastal plain through the southernmost border of the region. Valencian (known elsewhere as Catalan) and Spanish are the official languages of Valencia. |
