NAVARRA

PROVINCES:Pamplona

Navarra is a region (autonomous community) in the north of Spain. It borders France to the north and the Spanish regions of Basque Country to the west, Aragon to the east and La Rioja to the south. It's capital city, Pamplona, is well-known for its "Running of the bulls" festival each year in July.

Despite its relatively small size, Navarre has stark contrasts in geography, from the Pyrenees mountain range that dominates the territory to the plains of the Ebro river valley in the south. The climate in Navarra is continental (long, hot, dry summers and cold winters). The northern sub-zones have a dry climate with Atlantic influences.

Navarra's culture has a strong Basque influence in the northwest. It's official language is Spanish but Basque is also an official language in the northwest. In the southern area of the region you will find almost no Basque speakers and little or no cultural influence.

Navarra is one of Spain's wine producing regions. It used to be renowned only for its rosé wines but in recent years has been producing quality red and white wines as well.
