CANARY ISLANDS
ISLANDS: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera
The Canary Islands (Islas Canarias) are an archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa which form a region (autonomous community) of Spain. The four largest islands are (from largest to smallest): Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria. Canary Islands have a population density of 281.8 inhabitants per km2, making it the eighth most populous of Spain's autonomous communities.
The Canaries, originally volcanic islands (seven major islands, one minor island, and several small islets), were formed by the "Canary hotspot". The Canary Islands is the only place in Spain where volcanic eruptions have been recorded during the Modern Era, with some volcanoes still active.
These islands enjoy a wonderful climate, with a constant mild temperature through all the year, and splendid beaches of fine sand, although the landscape of each island is radically different to the others. |
