ARAGON

PROVINCES: Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza

Aragon is a region (autonomous community) in northeastern Spain. It borders France to the north and the Spanish regions of Navarra to the northwest, Cataluña to the east, Castilla y León and La Rioja to the west, Castilla/La Mancha to the southwest and the Valencian Community to the southeast. Its capital is Zaragoza.

In addition to Spanish, understood and spoken by virtually everyone in the region, the Aragonese language continues to be spoken in the mountainous northern counties of the Pyrenees. In the east areas, the Catalan language is spoken.

Because of its low population density large areas of Aragon remain wild and relatively untouched. It is a land of extreme natural contrasts, both in climate and geologically. Its climate can be defined like continental moderate, and is determined by its elevation changes which go from very cold - in the Pyrenees to warmer, more temperate weather in the center.
